Bringing “Karen” to Life Through Horror and Humor
I created my Karen Animation as both a promotional tool and an extension of my art, blending internet culture with my love for horror-inspired visuals. The design was sparked by the viral “Karen” memes of 2020, but I fused that absurd humor with influences from Junji Ito’s Tomie and MeatCanyon’s surreal horror style. After designing the assets, I pulled them into animation software to give the piece movement and character, transforming it from a static design into a living, unsettling spectacle. Paired with the release of my Karen T-shirt and organic in-person promotion, the animation played a key role in generating sales while showcasing how I can merge internet culture, horror aesthetics, and merchandise into one cohesive creative project.
